Renewals

​If you are renewing your registration, you will need:

• old registration
• proof of insurance
• mileage

New registrations

If you purchased a vehicle from a private owner, you will need:

• the vehicle title (for 1998 or newer vehicles)
• proof of insurance
• mileage
• bill of sale

If you purchased a vehicle from a dealer, you will need:

• CTA title application
• proof of insurance
• mileage
• proof of payment of sales tax

If you purchased a vehicle from out of state, you will need:

• the vehicle title (for 1998 or newer vehicles) or lienholder agreement and title number from the bank
• proof of insurance
• mileage
• bill of sale

If you moved from out of state and need to register in Maine, you will need:

• the vehicle title (for 1998 or newer vehicles) or lienholder agreement and title number from the bank
• current vehicle registration from the other state
• proof of insurance
• mileage
• bill of sale
